THE WANTED: POP DANCE/POP GROUP

The Wanted released their 2010 self titled album THE WANTED, April 24, 2012 to the U.S. market, and away they go! Their popularity has grown fast and furious since they came together to audition in 2009 in England at a mass calling of artists by Jayne Collins. So far they have slowly released 3 singles: ‘Chasing the Sun’, ‘Glad You Came’, ‘Lightening’, claiming number one spots in the U.K. from THE WANTED album.

Their second album BATTLEGROUND, 2011 has not been released in the USA to date. The Wanted are using a bit of marketing strategy with a slow release schedule to the U.S. markets. The first single ‘Gold Forever’ was released in March 2011 in aid of Comic Relief. In the meantime, THE WANTED album is selling at a record high.

Max George (age23), Siva Kaneswaran (age 23/Ireland), Jay McGuiness (Sounds like Chris Martin of Coldplay, age 21), Tom Parker (age 23), and Nathan Sykes (age 19), the band, became “The Wanted” after the audition and soon began working with producers Guy Chambers, Taio Cruz, and Steve Mac, and here we are, another Pop-Dance, Pop group from the UK, knocking it out of the park with sales and winning young girls hearts. They are sexy, look good, they sound good, and they appeal to a large demographic(13-45).

The group is versatile, each one of the group brings a unique quality and together they are infectious. They are a dance band, but do bring an individual flare with each number. The music not so much thought provoking as it is fun to dance to promotes a care-free spirit and maybe a little hell rising that is far more appealing to the younger audiences.

Look for the break-out artist in the future, possibly another Justin Timberlake, or Nick Jonas.

YUNA: SINGER/SONGWRITER

Out 4/24/2012 the self-titled album YUNA, was released by the Malaysian singer songwriter. Born Yunalis Zarai, the 25 year old is on the world music charts as a Pop-Rock, Indie Rock/Folk artist. Her soft soothing vocals and warm acoustic guitar are simply refreshing, sometimes jazzy (A little like Melody Gardot), presenting a free flowing sound that is pleasing to the ear. Her passion for song is reflected in her music on life, love and so much more.

Yuna began her career around 2006 by posting recordings on MySpace singing in English and Malay. She says her influences in music have been Feist, The Cardigans, Coldplay, Sia, and Bob Dylan. Yuna has steadily risen on the world charts and signed a US contract in 2010, and released her first EP in March 2011 to great reviews. She released “Live Your Life” as a single in January to her album YUNA

Yuna has been nominated for a 2012 MTV Iggy award as “Best New World Band” and has been nominated and won awards in other countries in the past few years. She is definitely someone to watch in the future on the world music scene as well as US market.

JON CLEARY: SINGER/SONGWRITER/MUSICIAN

Just out Jon Cleary’s latest album OCCAPELLA (4/17/2012). This album is not to be mistaken for a Cappella, (Music without instrumentation). The R&B, Funkster and his band the ‘Absolute Monster Gentlemen’ keep the Mississippi rolling with their latest version of New Orleans rock & soul.
After 20 years of studying the music cultural of New Orleans, the British born Cleary is in his groove at the piano, with his band, originally from the New Orleans area. His unique sound and delivery bring a southern Delta groove that works, from swampy undertones to some classy renditions of soul.

His version of “Southern Nights” (AllanToussiant /Glen Campbell) is the best modern day recording out there. He made it current and seemingly original, a classy contemporary number. Love the piano! Cleary knows his way around the keyboard

This album brings us so many good tunes, each with the flavor of the ‘Big Easy’
“Everything I do Gonh Be Funky”, move over, the funkster is back.
“I’M Gone” Cleary rocks it out with a catchy melody and vocals, but also
“Poor Boy Got To Move”, “Wrong Number”, “When the Party’s Over”, plus more.

If you want to feel like you are in the heart of New Orleans music, it’s all here in this album. Jon Cleary’s got it!

LIONEL RICHIE: SINGER/SONGWRITER

Check out the latest album from Lionel Richie TUSKEGEE, his 10th studio album. The R & B pop Icon shares his popular hits with the top country performers of today.
Richie is able to hold on to the integrity of the original song while enhancing the talents of his country counterparts, and exposing a whole new generation as well as a whole new genre to the infamous recordings of Richie from the 1960s into 1980’s. It’s ingenious actually, in one swoop he has revived his career and added a whole new generation to his belt as followers of his music.

After graduation from Tuskegee Institute with a major in economics, Richie went on to Auburn for graduate school, but was heavily involved with the Commodores, as a singer/sax player by then and the rest is history. As a member of the Commodores,1960-1968, they released  ‘Brick House’, ‘Easy’, ‘3 Times A Lady’, ‘Still’, and ‘Sail On’. In the 1970’s Richie was writing songs for other artists. Like ‘Lady’ for Kenny Rogers, as well as producing other artist. In 1981, he and Diana Ross released ‘Endless Love’.  In 1982 he went solo, and subsequently released a boat load of singles, that are easily recognizable to this day, just by playing the first note.

There are skeptics with this new release, which is true with everything, but who would have thought that the sound of R&B could slide into the country genre and you don’t even realize what happened, until your hear an unfamiliar steel guitar lick, or an occasional twangy country voice. It is actually refreshing making the old new again and reminds us of the incredible voice Lionel Richie has shared with us over the years.

Outstanding vocals & harmonies:  ‘My Love, (feat. Kenny Chesney). ‘Just For you’ (feat. Billy Currington) ‘You Are”  (feat. Blake Shelton) ‘Sail On’ (feat. Tim McGraw).
Also notable; ‘Easy’ (feat. Willie Nelson) and ‘Lady’  (feat. Kenny Rogers) and various others.

ONE DIRECTION: SINGING GROUP

ONE DIRECTION:

The new “BOY” band hot on the market today released their self titled debut album ‘ONE DIRECTION’. They are the latest commodity coming to us from the UK, popular with the young and young at heart. They have 5 year old girls/boys singing their hearts out to “What Makes You Beautiful”, the single released in September to great reviews and recipient of a BRIT award for Best Single 2012. One Direction is the  first group from the UK in history to debut an album at number one

The good looking group of young men ages 18-21, sex appeal on legs, have the girls swooning and the guys wishing they were in their shoes. The Guys:  Niall Horan, Liam Payne. Zayn Milik, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson, came up from Simon Cowells,  XFactor. Originally auditioned as individual acts, but later were put together as a group, and became an immediate hit with their rendition of ‘Forever Young’ leaked  to youtube.

The Techno pop group signed with Simon Cowells record label Syco Records’ and Columbia records for their debut tour. They have snagged commercial endorsements from Pokéman Black and White, and Nokia phones, and the hearts of young girls.

They have merit, good vocals, harmony, energy, definitely get you to move your feet, and they are easy on the eyes.  They have a spot in the music world right now and will run the gamut until the next group comes along with a catchy hook, and who knows, the next album, number two could be the biggest hit ever.  enjoy while you can!
