IL VOLO-TENOR TRIO

IL VOLO Released their 2nd Studio Album “WE AR LOVE” May 28, 2013 in the USA,  originally  released fall of 2012. The hot talented tenor trio has adapted their operatic roots to a pop album, but no worries they still sound fantastic! The beautiful harmonies are powerful and pleasing to the ear. Previously reviewed album one at http://tunedin4u.blogspot.com/2012/11/il-volo-3-tenors.html

allmusic Review by:  James Christopher Monger
“Recorded in Los Angeles and Rome under the watch of Grammy-winning co-producer Humberto Gatica and Tony Renis, the second studio album from dreamy teenage tenors Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto, and Gianluca Ginoble, better known as Il Volo, begins appropriately with a sweeping rendition of the Dianne Warren/Aerosmith power ballad "Questo Amore [I Don't Want to Miss a Thing]," dutifully extending the already lengthy 21st century bridge between commercial pop and classical. The trio, which first turned heads on the popular Italian talent show Ti Lascio una Canzone, brings an excitable, youthful bravado to the 12-track We Are Love's more pop-oriented offerings like Warren's newly written "I Bring You to My Senses," U2's "Beautiful Day," and the Mark Portmann-penned title cut, the latter two of which are the only songs sung in English. The more traditional, operatic/classically minded pieces, while seamless, soaring, and impossibly pretty in all the right places, lack the gravitas to truly make the listener swoon, a notion that's lent further weight when the great Placido Domingo steps in halfway through "Il Canto" and effectively steals the show”.

I’m sure we will be hearing from these guys for ages to come, as a trio or as single artists, they will infinitely live on.

VAMPIRE WEEKEND: MUSIC GROUP

VAMPIRE WEEKEND is really hot right now following the release of their 3rd studio album MODERN VAMPIRES OF THE CITY out  5/13/2013, debuting at the #1 spot on Billboard’s Top 200. They seem to be everywhere, on tour,  TV you can’t help but hear their easy breezy melodies sometimes ghostly music where ever you go.

The Indie, Alternative, Indie Pop/Baroque Pop group came together in 2006, at Columbia University with members Erza Koenig; Lead Vocals/Songwriter,
 Rostam Batmanglij;Guartists/Keyborads/Vocals/Songwriter and
Chris Tomson; Drums with Bassist/Vocals Chris Baio.

They have matured and their music has reflected the coming together of this group since their last album three years ago. People are raving about this group. Check out the video and decide for your self.

Part of why people are gravitating towards the “game-changer” angle is because the album really does grab your attention immediately as not sounding like a Vampire Weekend record. While opener “Obvious Bicycle” would seem to have all the hallmarks of irritation—mainly, Ezra Koenig’s effete warbling of self-consciously wordy lyrics—it also boasts a melody that is downright freaking gorgeous, and the arrangement doesn’t get in the way of it at all. This turns out to be a theme. The first seven songs on this album each have at least one melodic turn, a chorus usually, or just a cool phrase, that will be lodged in your brain for several days.

SPIN DOCTORS: JAM BAND

Spin Doctors, released their 6th studio album IF THE RIVER WAS WHISKEY, out 4/30/2013, their first album in eight years.

You may remember them from POCKET FULL OF KRYPTONITE which debuted in 1991. 22 years later they are still making music, and this time the Alternative Rock, Funk Rock, Jam Rock band bring us an all blues album.

They had a slew of singles that kept them on the radio waves in the late 80’s and early 90’s;  ‘Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong’ 1992, ‘Two Princes’1993, ‘Jimmy Olsen’s Blues’ 1993, ‘Mary Jane’ 1994, She Used to Be Mine’ 1996, and more. They were a popular jam group, and fans just loved them on the radio and live prformances.

Band members:
·         Eric Schenkman – lead guitar, vocals (1988–1994, 2001–present)
·         Chris Barron – lead vocals, guitar (1988–present)
·         Aaron Comess – drums, percussion (1988–present)
·         Mark White – bass guitar (1988–1998, 2001–present)

They had some hard times along the way when lead singer Chris Barron lost his voice due to a rare vocal cord paralysis that affected his ability to talk let alone sing.  In this time they each went their own way to do projects on their own, but they are back together and singing the blues.

The Blues Rock Review :
“Their 20+ year tenure crafted the mature and fluid sound found throughout the entire album that does not disappoint. The album consists of ten songs with no apparent weak point, just continual jam after jam. It is clear these guys are meant to work together and knew what they wanted to do with this album. With a new album comes a slew of spring and summer tour dates for the Spin Doctors”.

ANTHONY GOMES: SINGER/SONGWRITER/GUITARIST

The Canadian born, blues & blues rock guitarist and singer released his 11th album  BEFORE THE BEGINNING  out  4/30/2013.

Gomes steps back to where it all begin and brings us an album of raw unplugged blues. Not the typical hard rocking guitar finesse that he usually performs.

With his latest album, …Before The Beginning, Anthony Gomes offers a powerful collection of unplugged compositions, promising to be the artist’s most compelling work to date. “On this CD I wanted to show that there is more to our music than loud, ripping guitars. By stripping everything down, we could feature the voice and songs. I wanted to capture the spirit of the old field hollers and get back to where the music came from,” says Gomes, “We only used acoustic instruments – drums, piano, acoustic guitars and acoustic bass. The most powerful of all the acoustic instruments is the human voice. When you put the harmonies in there, it’s just soul shaking”.

“Musically, most people try to look ahead for inspiration, seeking out the latest cutting edge sound scapes. I seem to go in the opposite direction. In awakening the sounds of Muddy Waters or Robert Johnson, I hear the future of the blues tradition. This time, we went way back. This album is so yesterday, that it’s today.”

Gomes currently resides in St Louis MO, and is touring the Midwest.

BLUE: MUSIC GROUP

Blue, released their 4th Studio album “Roulette” out January 2013 in Germany, currently available at Amazon Music.

The English ‘Boy Band' is all grown-up and hotter than ever. The group came together in 2000, again by Simon Cowell on a show called ‘This Morning’.

They released 3 studio albums in 2001, 2002, and 2003, winning BRIT music awards, and earning top slots with their album releases. In 2005 they took a  hiatus to pursue individual careers, while still staying together by releasing 6 compilations of previously recorded music from 2004-2012, still in it, but only seen together on rare occasions. In 2009 they announced they would be getting back together, and started performing together again in 2011, but did not release the new album until this year.

Ten years later, the soulful pop rock group bring us a new talent that only comes with maturity, each of them  talented independently, but together they produce a sound that is a joy to listen to, and no doubt about it, they are real ‘Chick’ magnets.

The group consists of Anthony Costa 31- singer/songwriter and actor; Duncas James 35-singer, actor, presenter; Lee Ryan 29-singer/songwriter and actor; Simon Webbe-35, singer/songwriter, actor, and music manager. They are currently recording under their own label, and touring  to promote the new album.
