Hello Parrotheads, it’s Jimmy
Buffett time! Buffett released his 27th studio album in July
on iTunes 8/20/2013, SONGS FROM ST. SOMEWHERE, at
age 66 he is still having fun, singing , writing, and coming soon to Broadway
with “Big Fish”.
The album is mediocre, with a couple typical numbers from
Buffett; ‘Something Bout’a Boat’ and the most popular ‘Too Drunk to Karaoke’, feat. Toby Keith.
The rest of the album didn’t ring any bells for me. I did
like a slow track ‘Colour of the Sun’, and
he does throw in some very clever titles as usual; ‘Einstein was a Surfer’, ‘Earls Dead-Cadillac For Sale’, ‘I’m No
Russian’, but no other really catchy tracks with the tropical feel.
Buffett started out in the 1960 as a country singer, in 1971
he moved to Key West and began to establish the laid-back, easy going beach bum
persona. He combines country, folk, and pop with coastal tropical, known as
Gulf/Western, but this album leans more toward the country genre. It is low key, and slow,
and feels different from having fun in the sun of previous albums.
If you’re a follower, you will probably be happy he put out another
album after taking 4 years off since his last album release.
