THE JON LORD BLUES PROJECT LIVE released July 11, 2011, is a live performance album
primarily released as a merchandising project sold at Blues Project gigs. Jon Lord , the co-founder of Deep Purple, died of a pulmonary
embolism on July 16, 2012 at the age of 71 from complications of pancreatic
cancer.
Lord, co-founder and keyboard player of Deep Purple along with Ian Paice, drums, were the
constant of the of the group Deep Purple from
1968-1976, and later regrouped in 1984-2002, when Lord retired. They were among
the metal pioneers of that era. Lord co-wrote many of the band's songs,
including the seminal 'Smoke On The Water' and was responsible for the
legendary organ riff on 'Child In Time'.
Jon Lord was a
composer, but also renowned for his fusion of rock and classical or baroque forms, he was
probably best known for his Orchestral work 'Concerto For Group And
Orchestra' first performed at Royal Albert Hall with Deep Purple and the Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969 & later in 1999. As a musician, Lord was
accomplished on piano and organ and was associated with various groups; Deep Purple, Whitesnake,
Paice, Ashton & Lord, The Artwoods, and
the Flower Pot Men. His genre was primarily rock, but his roots
were blues/blues rock, he also composed classical pieces, and enjoyed classical
jazz and jazz fusion. The multi-talented Lord lived his passion of music up
until the very end of his life. Hats off to Jon Lord.
