KID KOALA: DJ/TURNTABLIST/MUSICIAN

KID KOALA, aka, Eric San, a Canadian DJ, Turntablisit, Musician, and Author of graphic novels and member of the alternative hip-hop group Deltron 3030 and The Slew, just released “12 BIT BLUES”. out Sep. 2012.  Koala is known for his unfathomable style of turntablism and his sense of humor.
He basically takes prerecorded music and re-records it by manipulating sound, using phonograph turntables and a DJ mixer, creating a contemporary form of music, bringing it up to the next level

In this album Koala takes the music of the old Masters like Robert Johnson, and amps it up with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, along with many other artists/media and creates a somewhat Psychedelelic Blues Sound.  It is different, but an art form that is worth mentioning. The guy has talent, doing what he does, which may be appreciated by some, but probably not by the majority.  A couple other guys that are doing this type of art form;  ‘DJ Angelo’ and ‘Cut Chemist’,  more for sure, but as far as note worthy, these 2 are near the tops, along with ‘Kid Koala'.  Give it a spin, try something new, enjoy!.

MATCHBOX TWENTY

Matchbox Twenty,  released their 4th studio album “NORTH” August 2012. The American Pop/Rock group who came together in 1995, have previously released three studio albums and sparingly over the years.  This is the first album in 10 years with all original music. Their Greatest Hits album “EXCILE ON MAINSTREAM” September 2007 was a 2 disc CD, with only six new songs. Their music is heavily played on POP music radio, but nothing new since 2007, so this is the long awaited album fans have been waiting for.

Rob Thomas the front man of Matchbox Twenty, and a solo artist in his own right has released 2 studio albums, 11 singles, and several videos. He sounds as good as ever,  and with his melodic voice entwined in harmonies of the Matchbox Twenty group  make the songs memorable. Don’t listen to the album just once, it actually grows on you. The realization is we have missed Matchbox Twenty, and their engaging harmonies, to sing and dance to.

With all the memorable music out there from Matchbox Twenty they have not been won a major award, which is unbelievable for all the air time they receive, and millions of copies sold. They have been nominated 4 times for Grammy, 5 times for the American Music Awards, and 2 times for the MTV Video Music Awards. Maybe “NORTH” is the winner!

CLAIRY BROWNE and The Bangin’ Rackettes - SINGING GROUP

BABY CAUGHT THE BUS, is the debut album of Clairy Brown & The Bangin’ Rackettes.
The Austrailian, retro soul, jump blues, doo-wop group is ‘the’ group to hear and see with their crowd pleasing, leopard print, and their party people attitude. The album came out in November 201l, but just recently has hit the USA markets. You may have heard them on the radio with their single Love Letter’,  or you may have seen/heard their Heineken commercial.
They not only sing songs reminiscent of  past they dress the part, and are hugely entertaining. There live show is rumored to be the best, maybe one day they will perform in the USA.
The album has several good downloads, ‘Love Letter’, ‘Vicious Cycle’, ‘Far To Late’, and ‘She Plays Up To You’ are a few favorites.

We will more than likely hear a lot more from this group in the future, once they make their USA debut. Until then, keep an eye out for them, and in the mean time enjoy the videos, and their music on iTunes.

BOB DYLAN: SINGER/SONGWRITER/MUSICIAN

Bob Dylan, just released his 35th studio album Sept 7, 2012, TEMPEST. The album showcases this living legend’s multi-talented ability as a musician and lyricist.

Dylan’s artful storytelling is undeniable, and the musicality he brings with each track is as unique as he is, but predictable. While the album is not revolutionary, it is typical Dylan, and someday it will probably be considered a masterpiece as time goes by. It has political commentary, lyrical malice, but true to the person we know and love as Bob Dylan. His voice is more than gravely these days, but after all the years of performing, something is bound to go. The lyrics he writes seem to suit his voice and the music. Any Dylan fan new or old, would enjoy this album.  Listen to the lyrics, the music, and his voice does not seem to matter.

One day our children will be studying his lyrics in school as any other well known poet, past and present. He has a pulse on North America/ the world and with innovative poetry he puts that to music we can relate to. He is a musical machine, a master of his trade.  If you have not seen him live you have missed out, Dylan and his band are extremely talented musicians, and put on a great show.

SELAH SUE: SINGER/SONGWRITER

Selah Sue, born Sanne Putseys in Leuven Belgian, is a musician , singer/songwriter. Her debut self titled album SELAH SUE, was released in 2011 in the European markets, and released on iTunes, in August 2012.

Selah Sue is currently touring in the USA promoting her album which is a mix of soul-funk, electric rock, and a little reggae. Sue has no boundaries when it comes to her music, playing guitar since her teens, she thought she would end up as a classical musician, but when she started writing music, she knew what she wanted to do.

Her first album contains the songs she wrote as a teenager, and thought they should be on her very first album. She attributes her style to idols; Lauryen Hill, Erykah Badu, M.I.A.,and Bob Marley. Sue's tracks have some interesting ballads and exciting arrangements, and a variety of vocal range. If it is true that the songs were written as a teenager, she is very creative and has a talent which only gets better with age.

Cee‐Lo Green agreed to accompany her on a duet album and ends up asking her to put the track (“Please”) on his own album. Last Fall Prince offered her a coveted support slot at his show in Antwerp, Belgium.

She is just starting out and at the age of 23, she has a promising career in the music industry as a talented singer/songwriter. Look for her in your area.
