ADELE: SINGER/SONGWRITER
Just out today 2/22/2011: 21 by Adele her second album and a sure winner. Already the first single out February 1, 2011 in the US “Rolling In The Deep”, is a hit. We will probably hear it over and over again into the next year. (You may have seen her sing this song on Dave Letterman last night 2.21.2011, he loved her) The album was released in the UK and throughout Europe in January to great reviews, and chart toppers.
With the current surge of female British singers/songwriters, (Sia, Florence Welsh, LaRoux, and Various others) Adele Laurie Blue Adkins by far has the most identifiable voice. She is not a gimmick, a sex symbol, she is a singer/songwriter with a powerful voice. As soon as she opens her mouth you know it is Adele. She does not sound like all the rest of the girls out there who seem to try to one-up each other by their outrageous/skimpy costumes, and antics that bring attention to their limited talent, she don't have to, because she has a talent that's not comparable.
The English pop, soul, jazz, blues singer/songwriter became a nearly overnight sensation when friends posted 3 demo’s on MySpace, as a class project, and shortly after she was offered a record label, and her first album 19 was out in 2008.
A former class-mate of Leona Lewis, Adele originally planned on a career as an agent helping launch careers of other artist. Thankfully her classmates could identify a unique talent when they heard her sing.
In 2009 Adele won a Grammy for Best New Artist, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. She was also nominated for record of the year from her first Album, 19 and song of the Year, “Chasing Pavements”
In 2010 Adele was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, for “Hometown Glory”, BeyoncĂ© took the honors for Halo. She no doubt will be in the running for the 2012 Grammys with her current album 21.
We have not heard the last of this girl, at 21, two albums in, she has just begun her career in the music industry and we can expect great things to come.
Other Songs on the Album you may enjoy: “Rumor Has It”, “He Won’t Go”, “Set Fire To The Rain”, and “Someone Like You”. Anyone of these could be record of the year. Check them out on iTunes.
