Duran Duran: Pop Rock, Alternative Rock, Synthpop, New Wave Group
Duran Duran, is a well known English rock group that became popular back in 1978. They just released their 13th studio album out in December 2010 ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW IS NOW. You may have seen them on VH1 or MTV Video doing the song by the same name recently, and frequently.
The band has 2 Grammy's (1984), a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (1993), and an MTV Lifetime Achievement Award for Video (2003), and various other awards and acknowledgements.
Simon LeBon’s vocals are strong and sound very today. The CD includes the Electro Dance, Synthpop type of music like so many others are doing right now. This is what sells kind of music and the party/club songs/sound, are combined with typical Duran Duran 80’s sound and retro fit into another decade.
The new album is OK and they do make the 80’s seem like today and the Duran Duran die hard fans love it, and that’s what counts, but their previous album RED CARPET MASSACRE out in 2007 was much better.
A couple of songs sound like the last one, but songs of note are: “All You Need Is Now”, “Girl Panic” (so 80’s) “Before The Rain”, and maybe one or two others.
You have to give them credit for hanging in there for over 30 years, and making their sound seem like it was made for today.
