FLORENCE & THE MACHINE: MUSIC GROUP

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE
Florence Welsh of Camberwell London and her band the Machine are an alternative rock group that made their début album in 2009. Their first album out LUNGS, has received much attention, especially in the UK, and now in the US.
You may recall Florence as a member of the group of women who paid tribute to Aretha Franklin at the opening of the Grammy Awards February 2011. That was a great example of her vocal range.  Her album does not showcase her voice as it did in the tribute. She has more of a group vocal sound.
She is kind of eccentric/quirky, kind of alternative rock, alternative soul, baroque rock, and art rock, and endearing.  See definition from Wikipedia below:
Baroque pop, baroque rock or English baroque, often used interchangeably with chamber pop/rock, is a style of music originated in the mid-1960s that brought elements of classical music into the writing and recording of rock 'n' roll songs.
Not to be confused with Rock art.
Art rock is a term describing a subgenre of rock music that tends to have "experimental or avant-garde influences" and emphasizes "novel sonic texture." Art rock is an "intrinsically album-based" form, which takes "advantage of the format's capacity for longer, more complex compositions and extended instrumental explorations
LUNGS,  was released in early July 2009, and from that she has released singles “Additied To Love”  released June 2010, originally written by Robert Palmer back in 1986, and “Dog Days are Over” out  in October 2010.
They were nominated for Grammy 2011 for Best New Artist, but lost to Esperanza Spalding. They did win an MTV award for the video “Dog Days Are Over” 2010, and have many nominations and awards from The United Kingdom.
Songs of interest not previously mentioned: “You’ve Got The Love”, “Kiss With A Fist”, “Cosmic Love’, and a catchy little tune called, “My Boyfriend Builds Coffins” .
Fans of Florence and the Machine, think the group is charming, energizing and can captivate an audience. Florence promises the next album due out in 2011, will be an eclectic mix of styles and less dark.  Check out Florence and The Machine at:    http://florenceandthemachine.net/
