GREGG ALLMAN: SINGER/SONGWRITER/MUSICIAN

Gregg Allman: Singer/Songwriter/Musician
The long awaited solo album from the southern blues singer is just out January 18, 2011 to great reviews. It has been 14 years since Gregg Allman released SEARCHING FOR SIMPLICITY, which received many accolades for the founder of the Allman Brothers Blues Band. LOW COUNTRY BLUES  is his 7th Solo Album produced by T Bone Burnett.
The Album goes back to the roots of southern swampy soul blues music, and he renovates the commanding and playful songs of the greats like Bobby Bland, Muddy Waters, Skip James, John Estes, John Lee Hooker, Jr. Wells, and Otis Rush and a few other notables and makes them his own. There is only one original song on the album, “Just Another Ride” written by Allman Brothers Band member Warren Hayes.
The obvious change is the nearly absence of the infamous Hammond B-3 organ Allman’s Trademark sound. He is backed by talented musicians, like Dr. John on the piano, who make the old seem new on this album. His voice is strong, maybe not as powerful or gravely but is distinctly recognizable on the first note. You know the gritty soulful sound could only be that of Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer (Inductee 2006) Gregg Allman.
Gregg, not only sings the blues, he has been livin' them for many decades, with his addiction to cocaine & recovery, alcohol addiction & recovery, loss of brother, 6 ex-wives, and various girlfriends, 5 children, plus 3 grandchildren. Most recently his son Elijah Blue, son with Cher is recovering from brain cancer, and doing well, and his own illness and liver transplant, in June 2010, a result of Hepatitis C, has not kept this man down. He is a true living and breathing blues man, a legend, of our time.
This album is a must have for the Gregg Allman fans, it’s not the hard rockin' blues of the past it is music of the past immortalized by a great blues singer/musician of today.
