2011 GRAMMY BEST FEMALE R&B VOCAL PERFORMANCE

2011 Best Female R&B Vocal Performance

NOMINEES: ARTIST/SONG
1 Faith Evans – “Gone Already”
2 Fantasia – “Bittersweet”
3 Monica – “Everything To Me”
4 Kelly Price – “Tired”
5 Jazmine Sullivan – “Holding You Down (GOING IN CIRCLES)”

Faith Evans:  She has been around since 1995 and this is her 6th Grammy nomination, with one win in 1998.  I would not call “Gone Already” another win, as she sounds like Lauryn Hill, and the song is not that memorable. If I heard it on the radio without knowing who it was, I would say it was Ms. Hill.

Fantasia:  American Idol winner has a winning number. “Bittersweet”, brings out the best qualities of her voice. I think this is why she won that show. The song is memorable, and you could identify her as the singer no doubt. This is her 10th nomination, and probably the winner.

Monica: She has been recording since 1991, and this song is from her 6th Album, but has no nominations so far. I don’t think she is the winner in this category for her song “Everything To Me” is not memorable for me. It sounds like something we have heard before, and I think it needs a fresh spin to it.

Kelly Price:  Discovered by Mariah Carey, this is her 4th Grammy nomination.  She can sing, and “Tired” is a good song for her. She has a chance to take the win, but the Competition is strong with Fantasia’s performance.

Jazmine Sullivan: This is her 8th Grammy nomination, no wins. “Holding You Down” is an upbeat arrangement, with good vocals. Jazmine has been recording since 2003, and this may be her chance to take home the Grammy.

The win is going to be between Fantasia, Kelly Price and Jazmine Sullivan, because they all do a great job, but the Grammy should go to Fantasia. She does a great job, its memorable, distinct and worthy of the award.
