SINGER/SONGWRITER: KEATON SIMONS

KEATON SIMONS:  SINGER/ACTOR

Keaton is an American Pop Singer/Actor from LA. He is not well known but has had some recent success. He first came to my attention on Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab. Show, featuring patient Eric Roberts, who is his Step-Dad.  He sang a number on the show for a family event at the Rehabilitation center.  I liked his voice and decided to look into his career, and reviewed his music.

He has dabbled with Hip Hop, Pop/Rock, but I think his voice is well suited for the blues. He has had some commercial success, writing music for TV shows. He has a marketable voice, but think he needs to showcase his voice better by selecting songs fit his voice first and then the mood.

His CD CAN YOU HEAR ME  has some good song choices that I am attracted to. I have downloaded the following to my iPod.

“Currently” and the “Can You Hear Me”   His material
is sensitive and addresses many issues in life.  His reflections are just plain depressing, and probably meaningful for those that struggle with the same problems, but he needs to make it more upbeat, and current.

His rendition of “Currently” is a love song professing his love for a lost love, which he is currently in love with.  This bluesy number has a quality that resonates  melancholy.  Although a sad song, the rhythms and voice quality are easy to listen to.

“Can You Hear Me” Again a bluesy upbeat number, but again his voice shines in the upbeat riffs of the blues guitar.  Tap your toe and sing a long, kind of reminds me of an old Andres Osborne tune.

I think we will be hearing more from Keaton Simons with his musical efforts. He has it, he just has to put it together.  When expression becomes the only goal the music is lost, he needs to focus on expressing himself to the music.
